It’s been a breakout season for several members of the Bradley Beal Elite 16U 3SSB Boys team and they finished it on Sunday by winning the E16 Championship at Peach Jam.

Four players scored in double figures, led by Miika Muurinen, who came back from a scary fall in Saturday’s semifinal and a trip to the hospital, to tally 21 points on 8-of-11. Jashawn “JJ” Andrews added 17 points on 7-of-9 as BBE 16U completed an unbeaten 6-0 week at Peach Jam with a 74-63 win over Team CP3 in the Championship.

Sheek Pearson added 14 points and five blocks and Jaylan Mitchell scored 14 and had five boards, while Trey Pearson had six points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals in the win.

The victory over Team CP3 completed an incredible run for the BBE 16s.

They began it with a heartstopping 62-58 victory over JET Academy last Saturday, thanks to a late steal and score by Sheek Pearson to put the icing on with seconds remaining. Pearson finished with 10 points on 4-of-6 and five boards.

Andrews and Murrinen also had big games in that one. JJ scored 18 points on 6-of-13 and Miikka had 16 on 6-of-10.

After a two-day break between games, the BBE 16s got back to it on Tuesday and picked up an 82-73 win. Muurinen was on fire in that game and finished with 33 points on 13-of-23, six rebounds and four blocks.

Andrews was economical with 14 points on 7-of-10 and Trey Pearson added 12 points on 4-of-4 with five boards, four assists and a pair of steals.

They completed pool play with two more wins, an 87-77 win over Arizona Unity on Friday behind 22 points from Mitchell and 21 from Andrews on 9-of-13. Andrews also led the team with eight rebounds and Trey Pearson added 10 points and nine assists.

A day later, JJ couldn’t miss, making a perfect 10-of-10 from the field, for 29 points in a 81-64 win over Indy Heat.

With a 4-0 run through their pool, BBE entered the championship bracket but faced two tough tests on Saturday. In the first game, Team Durant put them up against the ropes and took the game to overtime, but Bradley Beal Elite pulled it out 65-61 behind a balanced effort by Andrews (15 points, 11 rebounds), Murrinen (17 points) and Trey Pearson (14 points, 7 assists).

In the semis against Pro Skillz Elite came another tough test as they saw Miikka leave in the opening minute with an injury that delayed the game and forced paramedics to come out with a stretcher.

With their teammate down, three players stepped up: JJ, Jaylan and Trey.

Pearson had his best scoring showing of the tournament, picking up the load left by Miikka and pouring in a game-high 26 points on 9-of-14. Andrews had his second double-double of the day with 23 points on 9-of-14 and 10 rebounds and Mitchell scored 21 points as well.

As they headed to the Championship game, BBE got even better news as Miikka checked out clean at the hospital and was given the okay to play in the Final. Not only did he show up, but he showed out in front of dozens of scouts with 21 points on 8-of-11, including four threes. He also grabbed three boards and had two blocks.

Andrews also showed off for the scouts, with 17 points on 7-of-9.

After going into halftime tied at 37, BBE got it going on defense in the third quarter, limiting Team CP3 to just 11 points in the third quarter on 4-of-13 to pull ahead by four. They then closed it out by outsourcing CP3 22-19 in the final frame to get the win.

For the tournament, Andrews (19.6 ppg, 4th) and Muurinen (17.8 ppg, 7th) both finished in the Top 10 in scoring. Trey Pearson was the leader in assists per game at 5.4 apg and was third with 1.9 steals per game.
